SRINAGAR: “If tunnels and roads would have been substitute to freedom and dignity, then British should have never left India as it had enormously developed the infrastructure in India,” said Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement from jail. He also said Kashmiri youth are the most learned and competent enough to compete with the rest of the world but “illegal occupation of India and oppression unleashed upon them has deprived them a chance to excel”.
Malik said those who “sided with British” during the Indian freedom struggle can never understand the ethos of freedom struggle and psyche of freedom lovers.
Reacting against the statement of Narendra Modi that ‘Kashmiris should choose between terrorism and tourism’ and that youth striving for freedom are “misguided and absurd”, JKLF chief said, “The British ruled India for more than 200 years and during that period they enormously developed the infrastructure. If the standards of Modi ji are to be applied, then British should never have left India nor should have Gandhi, Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Moulana Azad strived for the freedom of India.”
“Our reply to Modi ji is the same that was given by Gandhi ji to a British envoy who had posed same type of question to him that how can poor Indian survive independently. Gandhi ji replied that he would prefer a non-competent poor independent rule over a competent and wealthy illegal occupation and slavery,” Malik added.
He said by “demonising” the freedom-loving people especially the youth of Kashmir, Modi has spitted “venom” against Kashmiris. “Modi ji should understand that roads and tunnels cannot make a nation change its track neither can intimidations and oppressions deter a nation that has resolved to end the illegal occupation from pursuing its righteous path,” he said.
“If Modi ji and Indian stooges in Kashmir really want Kashmiri youth to prosper, they should accept the verdict of the overwhelming majority of the state and free this nation,” Malik said.
